I have a warehouse selling wholesale engine parts, and I also make deliveries. Some of my drivers do paperwork as well when there are not too many deliveries. Can I classify them as clerical when they are not making deliveries all day long?

Classifying employees for workers’ compensation insurance isn’t always easy to determine. If you feel that any of your employees are not being properly classified, you should contact your carrier or your PEO and request an onsite visit. Read over the class code descriptions in the NCCI manual, which your insurance carrier, broker or the PEO can provide you with and make sure you are comfortable with their recommendation. Employers intentionally classifying workers to save premiums is a huge problem for insurance companies, but insurance companies have been known to misclassify employees generating excess premiums as well. If you have a similar issue you would like to discuss, call SourceOne Partners and one of our workers’ compensation specialists can assist you.
